Media Masters

I think it is clear by now, to everyone with half a brain, that we are no longer a "democracy", but a mass of consumers led by the nose by corporate advertising. And the corporate advertiser is Big Media. Neither political party nominated their candidate. Big Media did.

It has never been so blatant before, and it is, (dare I say something so extreme?) literally the end of American politics as we know it.

When the press became advocates rather than reporters, our doom was sealed. And this campaign season has provided the most egregious examples of it.

Big Media elites have chosen who you can vote for, indeed, who will be the leader of the Free World. (Caveat: given their political bias, and whom they seek to crown as president, we will not be Leaders of the Free World for long. They are, of course, blissfully ignorant of that.)

John McCain, several months ago, was at the bottom, broke, alone, kind of a "has-been" nobody. All things being fair and equal, he should have been relegated to the also-rans by the media who were very busy ignoring Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter, et al.

...but Big Media decided that they liked John McCain, and every time the Republican contenders were mentioned, he was included. The Media gave him coverage and buoyancy he did not merit.

The Media promoted the candidacy of McCain and it had its effect. He appeared to be a viable candidate. Perception is Reality.

On the Democratic side, Hillary has been the victim of one of the nastiest public breakups in history. Big Media's darling for the last decade, covered sympathetically, with gushing admiration and support for all these years until —when it really counted— she was thrown over in favor of a younger, fresh-faced lover.

I didn't have much sympathy for her as the betrayed wife of the philandering Bill, but I have real sympathy for her as the betrayed mistress of the philandering, cheating, lying, press.

Big Media romanced her with everything but chocolate & flowers. Until they fell in love with Obama. Suddenly, Hillary became all those nasty things the Republicans had accused her of all these years.

And Hillary will lose. It was a foregone conclusion the day Big Media traded her in for the New Model. The people did not decide this; nor did the political parties. Big Media chose Obama for us. And it is Obama they will shove down our throats for the next eight months as the Second Coming.

We have become an oligarchy after all...just not quite the sort warned against. We have an oligarchy of the Liberal Elite Media, who can and will decide who shall run, and who shall win because they control the information, the exposure, what shall and shall not be said about whom. They decide who shall be made to look good in every story, and who shall be made to look bad. What shall be told, what shall be withheld. They control the "spin", and the all important: Perception.

And given the flagrance with which they manipulated the process this year, and its demonstrated success, proved by the uncritical acceptance of it by the fevered, evangelical "Obamistas" and the less enthusiastic, but nevertheless obedient "McSheeples" , there is no doubt that they will do it even more aggressively and with even less restraint, subtlety or subterfuge in the future.

McCain, already this week, felt the dagger point in his back. The New York Times, part of the Big Media who made sure he was the Republican candidate, launched the first salvo of an attack that will last until election day. It was so over-the-top obvious as a manipulative hit piece—as predicted—that even Liberals were embarrassed.

McCain, too, has enjoyed the uncritical admiration of Big Media, particularly because he is fond of poking sharp sticks into the eyes of Conservatives (who are identified by Big Media as a greater threat to civilization than Communism or Islamic terrorism). I imagine Mac thought Big Media actually liked him. But he will come to realize in the next several months that he was chosen by them to be the Republican Candidate...and the loser in the General Election.

Big Media created McCain the Candidate, but only to be thrown on the sacrificial fires on Obama's altar.

McCain and Obama are neither the parties' choices nor the people's choices. They are nothing more or less than perceptions invented, celebrated, advanced and animated by Big Media.

America is doomed if we don't somehow wrest this process back from Big Media. I'm honestly at a loss how to do it. In spite of the "alternative" media, Big Media did exactly what they wanted, and the entire country is stuck with the result...and all the calamitous implications thereof.

  1. This chart of media ownership is pretty scary. So few companies should not own so much of the World's media.

American media should be less biased... there're broadcasts biased towards Liberal points of view, to be sure, but there are also plenty of Conservatively biased ones as well: Sean Hannity, Fox News, CNN, MS NBC, Bill O'Reilly, Mike Savage, etc.

There's plenty of bias to go around.

  2. No jag. There are NO mainstream media outlets that are biased toward Conservatism. None. Not even Fox News. They are considered to be so because they sometimes actually report a story WITHOUT Liberal bias. This is such a departure from the norm that it appears to be slanted Right. But that is only because ALL mainstream news is regularly reported with a strong Liberal bias.

Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage, etc. are not NEWSMEN, they offer Opinion Editorials which are labeled as such.

It is perfectly acceptable for anyone to offer a Liberal Opinion as long as it is identified as such. It is NOT OK when Liberal editorializing is presented as NEWS, which is almost universally the case in the Mainstream Media.

That is precisely why the New York Times and other newspapers are in such trouble financially and with respect to their credibility. ABC, CBS and NBC are losing viewers by the millions, as has CNN. MSNBC is so hysterically Left Wing in their "news" that they are literally a joke in the industry. Their numbers are so small it's embarrassing.

More and varied ownership of media could be a good thing. But until young, badly educated, idealistically utopian, "journalism school" graduates stop making the News Business into the Advocacy Business, it will be just the same, no matter who owns what.

Until we clean out the poison in the University, we'll continue to have corruption, ignorance and stupidity in the "newsroom", and people will continue to reject their "product".

  3. There's plenty of examples showing many types of bias in the news and the general media. There's Liberal bias, Conservative bias, corporate bias, all kinds of biased bullshit in our media.

  4. If you can come up with a single instance of Conservative Bias in a Mainstream Media News report, I'd love to see it.

    Not Opinion, straight NEWS.
