I have a feeling...
(...which goes against my usual agonizing analysis...)
But I have a feeling about Rudy. Call it an instinct; an intuition.
He's not as socially conservative as some on the Right would like. But, then, neither am I. I don't want abortion outlawed. I want reasonable, decent restrictions; but I want women to have options in desperate circumstances.
From a Second Amendment advocate's point of view, his record is more problematic. He didn't impose the draconian gun restrictions in New York, but he didn't vigorously oppose them either. He hasn't demonstrated the activist's zeal for 2nd Amendment rights that I'd prefer, but he's not a gun grabber.
I think Rudy is a truth teller. I think he says what he means, and means what he says. I think he has spunk, clear ideas of what's right and wrong. I think he has courage and compassion. I think he is a fearless fighter for what he believes in. I think he can't be intimidated. I think he's a tough guy. I think he might just be what we need.
You can't expect any candidate to be a perfect reflection of your every position and belief; but you can demand that a candidate have the sort of character you can trust to make decisions you can live with. I think I can trust Rudy to see clearly, reason correctly, and make good decisions based on the actual facts.
He seems grounded, plain, direct, straightforward, real, funny, smart, fearless and tough.
And I'm thinking that he just might make a fine President.
