"Breaching America"

Todd Bensman of the San Antonio Express News has written an in-depth report on illegal immigration from Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries called Breaching America.

It turns out a few of our Latin-American neighbors, particularly Cuba and Guatemala, are more than happy to give out visas to pretty much any Arab who asks.

The route for them is Damascus to Russia to Cuba to Guatemala to Mexico...into Texas.

"Guatemala is a pivotal stop along the serpentine routes where American law enforcement has tried to intercept special-interest immigrants. Immigrants from all parts of the world find it a virtually unpoliced superhighway, where local Arabs and corrupt border officials help people like Boles move under the radar, camouflaged in the multitudes.

The U.S. State Department singles out Guatemala as one of the world's busiest transshipment nations for undocumented immigrants of every nationality, mostly South and Central Americans. Special-interest immigrants from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia blend in easily among them, moving inexorably north.

One reason is simple geography. South of Guatemala are the South American and Central American countries where many special-interest immigrants first arrive and prepare for the final push north.

To the north of Guatemala is Mexico and America's southern border. So virtually everyone on the way to the U.S. by land is eventually funneled through Guatemala. But, like other Latin American countries, Guatemala offers more than just geography.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Ingersoll has prosecuted several major smugglers who have brought hundreds of Middle Eastern clients across U.S. borders. She said Guatemala offers "relative ease of entry, a hospitable Arab immigrant community that provides safe temporary haven, and it has operating within it individuals who are tied into illegal-immigrant smuggling business."

U.S. homeland security agencies are well aware of Guatemala's key location and have quietly sought to cripple the flow with undercover enforcement operations. But the impact on the tenacious industry, allowed to flourish by a lax central government, is questionable."

It turns out anything bad is always worse. Many of our neighbors are aiding and abetting the movement of terrorists into our country. Yet, strangely, one of them is NOT Mexico...who values the millions of dollars flowing into their country from ours so much, they're terrified of a closed border, which could be expected after the first jihadist that snuck into America from Mexico blows something up. Mexico finds it in her interests to do her best to interdict potential Muslim terrorists...and is cooperating with the United States to the point of allowing US officials into Mexican prisons to interrogate "people of interest".

(There is a certain beauty to that, really...who among the damp Liberals is willing to make a big deal of it, which would include accusing their friend and collaborator, Mexico, of violating the civil rights of detainees?)

Here are the are four parts of his report:

Part 1: War Refugees or Threats Part 2: The Latin Connection Part 3: Stuck in the Middle Part 4: I've Made it to America

  1. I was in Guatemala about 12 years ago (on a short mission trip) and while it has its charm it's still pretty much 3rd world. We visited a church at one of the northern border towns one night, and it was probably the most dangerous place I've ever been in.

You have to cross a river to get to Mexico, and "transporters" there who would tell naive travelers that they would be in the US by crossing the river. Once they got over after paying out a large sum they found out there was only another 1000 miles to go.

The next big terrorist attack that can be traced to someone who uses the Guatemala/Mexico will cause that pipeline to be crimped in a hurry. Until then we'll have to endure the open border de-facto policy.

  2. The question is, if this reporter can find this out. If now I know it...and YOU know it, why doesn't the government know it?

Or if they do, DO something about it?
There is no adequate argument for a reasonable mind that not addressing this wide open illegal highway into America is a good idea.

  3. It never ceases to amaze me how America has for so long left this border unguarded or open to smugglers. It's like when you arrive at the airport on an international flight, sometimes you'll just walk right through, because they don't feel like checking you out or there's a side door thats sometimes left open for you to sneak in.

Maybe it's because of there only being 2 major parties, you can only punish them so much.
