"The Indians made essentially no effort to resist European settlers. If they had bothered to unite and fight back, they’d still be in control of the continent. How could England, Spain and France have supported an invading force on the other side of the Atlantic using 17th Century technology? As late as the 19th Century, the Sioux were much more interested in fighting their traditional enemy the Crow than they were resisting the white settlers. I believe it was Crazy Horse who once had to use the presence of Crow scouts to motivate his apathetic warriors to go out to attack the US Cavalry.
The fact of the matter is that the Indians welcomed the white invaders as allies in their petty squabbles and because they coveted the guns, firewater and cheap trinkets Europeans gave them.
The sad thing is that Americans are now repeating the mistakes of the Indians. Both political parties welcome immigrants as allies in their petty political squabbles, and we covet the life of ease that cheap labor and cheap imports bring us."
