Winston Churchill on Islam

Quotes from an 1899 book by Winston Churchill in which he describes Muslims (Moslems) he apparently observed during Kitchener's campaign in the Sudan:

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men."

"Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."

  2. You may shamelessly steal from tmq2 anytime you like. You have our permission.

Beware though, Blogger/Google may label you a "hate" site, thereby telling the world that you are on the right side of politics, and the GWOT, and that you hate liberal appeasers (or fifth-column liberal gang bangers, as I like to call them).

So post at your own risk of being labeled a sensible, loyal patriot.

  3. I have been having an on-line debate the last few days with a person in Britain. The topic was gun control and crime. I had to stop the debate when he said,"At least my country is not spiralling out of control."

  4. Yes shieldwall I think so too. He just sees the unattainable utopian world through his eyes. Too bad he can't see the real situation around him.

  5. Lance, Welcome!

And thanks for the permission to quote. I love your blog. And was disturbed to hear about Blogger!

I suppose I'm too small of a fry to be noticed. I'll consider it a graduation into blog maturity when they find me dangerous enough to silence!

    Still, how devilishly inconvenient!

    Thanks for your great site!

  6. His country is not "spiralling out of control"? Has that idiot checked crime RATE statistics in his country?

If he did, he'd pretty much have to conclude that it IS, in fact, doing just that!

But he prefers to smugly despise America while England goes up in flames.

    Sigh.

I should be used to it by now.

But I do wish people would at least blame us for our real faults...rather than their own imaginary fantasies.
