"Here in Washington members of both parties recognize that our most solemn responsibility is to support our troops in the war on terror. Yet... a narrow majority in [Congress] abdicated its responsibility by passing a war spending bill that has no chance of becoming law and brings us no closer to getting our troops the resources they need to do their job. The purpose of the emergency war-spending bill I requested was to provide our troops with vital funding. Instead, Democrats in [Congress], in an act of political theater, voted to substitute their judgment for that of our military commanders on the ground in Iraq." ---President George W. BushThis is what Speaker Pelosi said:
"Take a deep breath, Mr. President... Calm down with the [veto] threats. There is a new Congress in town. We respect your constitutional role. We want you to respect ours... This war without end has gone on far too long, and we are here to end it." ---House Speaker Nancy PelosiHe is a commander-in-chief trying to win a difficult war, when all around him are losing their heads; who understands the critical nature of the mission, has sacrificed personal popularity and political capital, and who is unwavering in his stand against deadly enemies who have vowed to destroy us.
She's a political hack, who clearly doesn't understand the Constitution, who doesn't stand by her convictions...but rather makes grand gestures; who bribes and extorts cooperation from Democrats in a desperate attempt to appease the anti-American Left by wounding the President, regardless of how dangerously or negatively it impacts our country, our troops, or our future. Her contemptuous tone and eager hubris are repulsive in a supposedly serious national leader.
