Liberal Mental Disorder

While composing a response to a Liberal letter writer for another blog, it came to me how his thinking is symptomatic of the "mental disorder" that is Liberalism. He is trapped in believing that something CANNOT be true if he doesn't like it, and that something MUST be true if he does like it.

Liberals have become progressively more emotional. They are so caught up in the struggle to fend off any truth that makes them FEEL bad, they have ceased to be rational and are unaware of their circular reasoning, which usually goes something like this:

(The subject was Black Crime in America)

"Truth is what makes me feel good
That blacks have a very high crime rate makes me feel bad
Therefore blacks don't have a very high crime rate."

Facts are not required in this formula.

Evidence is dealt with just as easliy:

"Truth is what makes me feel good
That blacks have a very high crime rate makes me feel bad
Therefore blacks don't have a very high crime rate.
Prison statistics show that there are a disproportunate number of blacks in prison
Since blacks don't have a very high crime rate
Prison statistics must be untrue (i.e., the result of endemic "racism")

This was the letter-writers exact "logic" process, and conclusion. Rational dialogue: impossible.

One only need listen to the speeches and sound-bites, harangues and accusations issuing from Liberals on a daily basis to recognize the universality of this affliction among them. That Conservatives constantly make fun of this nonsense is not surprising. Liberals have become so controlled by their emotions that they have actually lost the ability to reason.

  1. Hi Carol,

Regarding your blog-entry entitled "Liberal Mental Disorder", I don't think your characterization of how liberals think is correct. I'd say your characterization explains how extremists think, be they on the right or left, instead of exclusively applying to liberals. When I used to divide the world into left and right, your description of liberals was how I would have described conservatives - irrational, emotional, simplistic, close-minded, viewed the world with blinders on, etc. Now that I tend to divide the world into rational moderates vs. crazy wing-nuts, it's easier for me to see how the above descripion applies to extremists on both sides.

  2. Steve,

If you can show me a Liberal policy, program, activity or idea in the last 10 years that is based on solid rational thinking, rather than Hate, Pity, Guilt, Fear, wishful thinking, or the lure of Utopia, I'll reconsider.

  3. The liberal idea of not rushing into war in Iraq has been proven a rational one. We have lost almost as many Americans in that war as we lost on 9/11, the bill is desined to be at least a trillion dollars, Hussein was at best a minor threat, and the region has only been further destabilized. As a result, even though we spend as much on defense as the entire rest of the world, our hands are tied when countries like North Korea pose actual threats, because we simply cannot fight another war, and they know it.

Leaving Iraq now could make things even worse, but if we could go back in time and not invade in the first place, our nation would be in a much stronger position today, and 2,500 brave soldiers would still be alive today.

Another liberal idea is to develop technologies to wean us of foreign oil. It is estimated that the trillion dollars we are spending on the war could have been enough to make us competely energy independent, freeing us from the instability that is rampant in the middle east, rather than getting us even more trapped in it.

Third world Brazil has achieved energy independence, there is no reason to think our great nation can't do the same. There is a finite amount of oil, it will run out, and the countries that plan for that eventuality will be the strongest.

  4. If over a year of wrangling with the U.N... trying everything including the absurdity of Hans Blix's "inspections" is "rushing", it's clear that not only do Liberals have no ideas, they don't even understand the meaning of words.

It is not a Lilberal idea to make us less dependent on foreign oil. It is the Liberals' idea to make sure that we cannot under any circumstances use the oil to which we have access. No drilling, and no new refineries is the Liberal mantra and agenda...FORCING us to go to the world market, and become more dependent on OPEC than we need to be. The Liberals roadblock every effort to find, drill, and refine American oil, then damn the country for using "foreign" oil. Another great Liberal "idea".

Anonymous is less than informed or less than honest. Oh, there IS a finite amount of oil. But it is not a SMALL amount. By all honest measures, there is more than enough oil on the planet to last over a hundred years. The Liberal "idea" that we are on the brink of running out of oil, is ignorant hysteria.

The Liberal "idea" that Hussein was only a "minor" threat, was not the Libeal "idea" before the war. Everyone from Kerry to Kennedy spoke of Saddam Hussein as a great threat to stability, peace, and to the United States. Anonymous should read the speeches. They're on record. Iraq has only become a "minor" threat because the Liberals never support the war we're actually fighting. They only support past wars or future wars...wars we're NOT fighting.

They did not want to invade Afghanistan. They said it would be another Viet Nam...they warned us about the Soviet duration and failure there; "quagmire" was heard first about Afghanistan. They were nay-sayers, pessimists, and protesters. They have only "supported" the Afhanistan invasion since we won it, and began fighting in Iraq, in order to pretend that they are not total flakes on National Security, and counterfeit bona fides for undermining the current war.

Anonymous' assessment that North Korea is an "actual" threat will last only until we actually go to war with them. Then Liberals will be marching for peace, cursing President Bush as a warmonger, and gleefully counting the dead as proof.

If this sad list of Liberal "ideas" is the best that Anonymous can do, I rest my case. Rather than refute my contention, he has illustrated it admirably.
