A friend sent me this Letter to the Editor from his hometown newspaper. My only comment: Mrs. Della for President! --The Gunslinger
"Dear Editor:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of "illegal immigration". This is an oxymoron. I hope none of you use it! Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house) .
According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he, too, is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest ... um, except for ... well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker."
Did I miss anything? Does this sound reasonable to you? If it does, grab a sign and go picket something. If this sounds insane to you, call your senators and enlighten them because they are stumbling in the darkness right now and really need your guidance."

Dear Gunslinger,
ReplyDeleteI think that this analogy is genius. I'm not sure about her Presidency quite yet but I would like to read more of Mrs. Della's work. Mr. Gunslinger, I share many of your thoughts, however I do believe that the power of prayer is stronger than the power of the trigger finger. I also love America and stand on the foundations of which it has been built upon. Where is Superman? You know that guy who believes in "Truth, Justice and the American Way" I believe that the creation of him and his super human attributes was the beginning of the destruction of our country. "How so?" You might ask...well, when we all started believing that imaginary heroes were the ones to put our hope in instead of God, that was when America decided to heap God in a pile of things to out grow, along with the Easter Bunny, Santa, and the Tooth Fairy. So to believe in the virtues of the American dream would be to believe in Superman. They are nice and all but most people want to be great American businessmen rather than good American men. Superman is kool when you are running around in a cape jumping off the kitchen chairs but believe you me...If you crawl into my bed still wearing your Superman Jammies you better have me still believing you are super in the morning or I'll put you away in a closet and maybe let you out once a year with the Christmas decorations.
God however, is for everyday. God was the foundation upon which we all stood upon long ago. The world has now become too complicated. Perhaps it is too complicated for an imaginary Superhero such as Taxi Driver or Rambo but it is never too complicated for God. So Mr. Gunslinger since you can't just shoot 'em... how about using the sword of God Which is His word the Holy Bible. Read Ephesians Chapt. 6 and you will learn volumes about Spiritual Warfare in just a few paragraphs. I understand the freedom and honesty that you enjoy with your words here in your blog but just a gentle warning to you...please don't get too carried away because you words are powerful so choose them wisely. They travel far and wide and they carve steadfast and deep.
One last thought. Some folks would just like to complain about things as they are. but I challenge all people to start to make a difference in America and in the world by daring to love someone with out profit. In other words show some love to a stranger, to someone who can't benefit you by returning this act of love. Lets encourage and build up one another. I'm not knocking anything that you are saying here on your blog. As an American you have your freedoms right. I'm just suggesting positive actions for you and your readers because I want America to succeed. Thank You for reading such a long responsive comment but it just proves that your writing provokes thought and inspires response:)
Thanks.
